(SMS) Rise Against - Help Is On The Way

[Verse 1]
I have my mother's dreams, I have my father's eyes
You can't take that from me, just go ahead and try
The Crescent City sleeps, while giants in the sky
Preparing to unleash, let loose a mighty cry
Can nobody save us? Will anyone try?
The bayou is burning, the cypress has died
And all along they're saying

[Hook]
Help is on the way (they said, they said)
Help is on the way (they said, they said)
One by land, two by sea, right there in front of me
Help is on the way

[Verse 2]
Five thousand feet below, as black smoke engulfs the sky
The ocean floor explodes, eleven mothers cry
My bones all resonate a burning lullaby
You can't take that from me, just go ahead and try
She stands at the shoreline with hands in the air
Her words pierce the dark night, "does anyone care?"
And all along they're saying

[Hook]

[Bridge]
Right here, right here
Right here, right here
Right here, right here

[Verse 3]
Choking on the black gold, upon which we rely
We keep axes in the attics to see cameras in the sky
"Help is on the way" they said, they said
"Help is on the way" they said, they said
We were told just to sit tight
Cause somebody will soon arrive
"Help is on the way"
But it never came
It never came

[Hook]

Rise Against isn't a strange band to me. In the magnificent Need For Speed Underground 2 game, there they were with the song Give It All, and the same song was in the Rock Band 2 game. I always thought it was a cool song but never had curiosity to look for another ones from the band till this moment.

I was recently watching a video comparing the classic punk versus the modern punk genres, and there they showed up with a name and melody that caught my attention. The name Help Is On The Way seemed to me a positive message and I consequently went on listening to the full song and paying attention to the lyrics. For my doubled surprise, it was a different lyrics of what I was expecting and because, even being modern punk, they kept the roots of criticising.

The song is about the delay on public politics in helping the homeless and families who suffered the consequences of the Katrina Hurricane, in 2005, what can be seen the videoclip and, also, briefly in the end of the song, the problem with the spilt oil in and how this affected the region.

Now I want to bring the focus to something more intimate and personal. We know people who have been and are living through problems, of their own or someone close to them. These people keep on asking us help and our answer, as a way of solace, is limited to a "I'll be praying for you" or to the emoji 🙏. We tell them "you can count on me" but when in the real need we are the first to step off.

I say this looking at myself. I have done this countless times and it isn't something I'm proud of. I've been trying to change this kind of behaviour every single day. Of being a real hope and not another one in a list promising a false help.

Starting with me, I hope this kind of behaviour may be extinct and, when we say "help is on the way", it may truly be the sooner possible.
