[Verse 1]
Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today
Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today
[Verse 2]
Imagine there are no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
No religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace
Imagine there are no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
No religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace
[Chorus]
You may say
I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one
(Imagine all the people sharing all the world)
I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one
(Imagine all the people sharing all the world)
[Verse 3]
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world
[Chorus]
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one
It’s funny how we all imagine a perfect world. Nothing like this or that. Imagine... imagine... John Lennon imagined and wrote this song. It would be perfect if everybody was into this idea but it won’t help. This is utopia!! And there comes A Perfect Circle’s version.
What I like the most about Maynard Keenan, A Perfect Circle’s main writer, is how acid and critic he can be. Just look at the band’s name and its logo: it isn’t a perfect circle. He doesn’t deny a better future, but he isn’t daydreaming about it. He also does this with his other band, Tool, which is way harsher than A Perfect Circle.
As you can see in the video clip and the song’s sombre tone, we’re all doomed. Somehow. No happiness, no hope, no future... Only consumerism, wars, theft, extremism, political or not, hunger... and if we don’t step up and do our part, little by little, starting in our homes, yes, I’ll have to agree with Maynard that our future isn’t going to be perfect. It'll be just another beautiful song of where people don't realise what they're singing and the meaning behind. Yes, I’ll also agree with the sombre tone, because we’ll be living a fake reality.
Be the change wherever you are. Be the hope for the lost one. Be the light within the darkness. Be a positive difference. And as the last lines say ”I hope someday you'll join us and the world will live as one”.
