DELIRIOUS? “KINGDOM OF COMFORT” | We don’t live in a kingdom of comfort

Few bands are as consistent as the “Delirious?” are. A British Christian worship/pop/rock group that started in the early 90s and announced their retirement in 2009. They were always true to what they sang. Even being a Christian band, their lyrics weren’t only focused on the “Jesus’ way”, because a life of examples, most of the time, speaks louder than words.

Their last studio album idea, “Kingdom of Comfort”, came after some visits they made to India and to the African continent. It’s an invitation and a challenge to us all, Christian or not, regardless our beliefs, to change our habits.

Save me
From the kingdom of comfort where I am king
From my unhealthy lust and material things
(Kingdom Of Comfort)

These are the words starting this album: a cry for help. We all know that everything we conquer in this perished world won’t follow us when we pass away. One of the most provoking songs ever written, because we tend to accumulate things without thinking about the consequences (I mentioned something resembling this in the blog post and video of the song “PERSONAL SHOPPER”).

You also find songs teaching what love is, songs that call social responsibility, and, being a Christian band, songs worshipping and showing God’s love, even when everything in life is difficult. You see lyrics like:

God is smiling over us tonight
Where hearts are broken love unites
God is smiling
(God Is Smiling)

Don't let what you own become a crown when you’re old
Don't sell up your soul to the glitter and gold
(Give What You’ve Got)

Love will lead me to your feet
Love won't pass me on the street
Love will look me in the eye
Love won't leave me here to die
So to your arms I'm gonna run
And escape what I've become
Love will find a better way, so they say
(Love Will Find A Way)

We turn the page, to a future just begun
If heaven is real then let our heaven become
Peace on earth, let it flow
We raise our voice where the colour's all but gone
Paint the world with redemption songs
Stir it up, let it flow
(Break The Silence)

Hope will come to those who wait
As the heart of heaven breaks
(All God’s Children)

Injustice, poverty, inequality… we’re surrounded by this. Sometimes there’s this question looming in the air “where’s God in all of this?”, and I answer: He’s in the hope inside the hearts and in the actions of those who try to make a better world, in which the human being itself brings destruction and evil.

The songs I mentioned earlier are my favourite in the album, as they are played, but the full album is a masterpiece. It’s like a Christian version of Radiohead mixed with U2, but with their own and strong characteristics.

This album’s recommendation was a suggestion that one of my proof-readers, Vini, mentioned in a talk we had about our usual topic: music.

You can listen to this album in its integrity in the links in the description.

Have you got any suggestion and want it to show up here? Comment here, in the video or in the Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages. Also, take your time to follow them as from time to time I post something different from the YouTube’s videos.

And, until our next meeting, keep on building your memories.
