There are
some artists I like following in everything they do in and out of music. One of
them is Ryan Clark, mostly known for doing lead vocals on the Christian metal
band Demon Hunter. Besides that he's also a high level graphic designer. While
following his works, it pops me out, between 2014 and 2015, he was getting
involved in a project with another musician, Randy Torres (ex- Project 86), to
release an electronic project. Knowing Demon Hunter and Clark's drawings, even
being hard to picture him in an electronic/industrial project, both main
projects of them have never been strangers to electronic components, it got me
pumped out for real.
About the
project itself, Ryan Clark was responsible for the vocals and compositions,
while Randy Torres by the musical production. Don't expect any
"harsh" vocals. Ryan Clark uses all of his clean vocals, which is as
beautiful and excellent as the other. It is possible to identify inspiration
from famous groups like Depeche Mode, New Order and even Nine Inch Nails in
NYVES's tones. Also the minimalism in the album cover is fascinating!
One of
the things that I like the most in Ryan Clark's approach to song writing is how
he creates his lyrics. Sometimes it's so clear and direct, and, most of the
time, it makes you think of what possible analogy he could be using. Reading
slowly and knowing that both Clark and Torres are Christian, the meaning of
some lyrics become clearer.
In this
mix of original, inspirational bands, genres and melodies, the songs I like the
most are:
- Return
- Something Divine
- Parasites
- The Exit
- Idle Thoughts
- Light
Even
though it is an electronic/industrial music project, don't expect it to be a dancing album. It is a little bit sombre, reflexive and sensible,
although this doesn't take a single slice of its excellence.
